It's been weeks

It's been weeks since I updated the blog. So, let me see if I can think of everything that's been going on....
1) I've got a family member in the hospital. I haven't been able to visit as much as I'd like. I'm hoping to get up there tomorrow.
2) We had an oil leak, so my hubby spent the weekend tearing apart the car & putting it back together.
3) Jay is done with the first book in his Math program - Attacking Addition. I was going to have him move onto Subduing Subtraction, but I've changed my mind. Instead, I'm going to have him work on his handwriting. We'll play Math games & do a page of addition problems at least once a week to keep up the practice of doing Math. I'll evaluate his writing progress in about a month & then reconsider moving onto subtraction at that point.
4) Dea was put back on meds for her ADHD. Hopefully, since she's also on meds for her Bipolar, we'll have better results with the ADHD meds this time.
5) Jay started reading a Dinosaur Cove book to me. He didn't finish, though. He can read the words & comprehend the book. However, it was simply too long. He still isn't ready for longer books. He picked up a Magic Tree House book this week when we went to the library. I'm not sure he'll get through this one, either (again due to the length). I'm not going to stop him, though. If he wants to try to read these books, I'm going to let him. I won't push him, but I also won't hold him back. He's stubborn, like me, he'll keep working at it until he's reading these books with no problem.

Back to School

Monday was our first day back to school. We got most of the work done. Hopefully, by the end of the weekend, we'll be back on schedule. I didn't get everything finished over our break, so I'm still working on that stuff, as well. The book inventory is almost done; all that's left is the books on top of the bookcases. We did get the office rearranged. I still have to go through all the boxes stacked up around here, though. The kids have added stuff to all of them, and I can't figure out which were coming in & which were going out. I hope to be done with that by the end of the week.
Jay had so much fun doing school today. He was thrilled to get back to it. He read 2 books to me & the first 3 chapters of another book to Dea. He was so enthusiastic about the plan for the 2nd half of the school year. He all but jumped up & down when we went over the plan. I love that he still has this amazing desire to learn everything. It makes his schooling so much more fun.
Dea wasn't quite as thrilled as Jay, but she's happy to be back to school as well. Breaks give them too much time on their hands. They need a certain amount of structure in their day, and we just don't have much structure when we're on break. So, they were both very happy to have the break over & school started again. That's why we could never unschool completely. The kids don't do well without the right amount of planning & structure.
